Egg

I take a breath, and ask you why,
I saw Christmas trees on the 4th of July,
I saw 24 geese walking by,
The window in the morning.

And, the birds sing,
And they wake us,
And I cry.

Be gentle with me, love
I’m an egg,
And I break.

Be gentle with me,
Well, I’m a silly little thing,
But I sing.

I got a tape recorder to record my thoughts,
I only got one, that’s all I got,
I said, “I love you.”
I love you.

And, you play it for me when I get sad,
So it makes me laugh, I don’t feel so bad,
And I love you.

Be gentle with me, love
I’m an egg,
And I break.

Be gentle with me,
I’m a silly little thing,
But I sing.

You wake up sweating in the middle of the night, and
I ask softly, “Are you alright?”
“I don’t know.” You say, “We never know.”
Well, we’ve got one thought left with our last breath,
I’m always wishing for the best, but I don’t know.
I never know.

Be gentle with me, love
I’m an egg,
And I break.

Be gentle with me,
I’m a silly little thing,
But I sing.
