I hunger for you now, and the
Banquet’s all laid out, and I am
Near you at the table,
But something’s off
And I’m not able, ‘cause I

Couldn’t catch your eyes, I couldn’t
Hold your smile, I couldn’t
Let you now, and now I…
I have to go.

To New York City, I have seen it in a
Magazine, and I have seen it on the
Television and on the
Theatre screen and I have memorized
Every light from every
Window pane, and that’s a lot of
New York City, running
Through my brain.

And it should have been,

So simple, but it’s so hard to find, if you could only,
Look inside me, if you could only,
Read my mind, and I would show you every-
thing you’re questioning and every-
thing you needed to know, I just can’t
I can’t keep from hiding, now I…
I have to go.

And, I’m not looking now because,
I know, that won’t see.
You’ll never hold me close, and you’ll never
Come running after me,
On my way to New York City.

And it should have been,

So simple, but it’s so hard to find, if you could only,
Look inside me, if you could only,
Read my mind, and I would show you every-
thing you’re questioning and every-
thing you needed to know, I just can’t
I can’t keep from hiding, now I…
I have to go.
